Ashesi community returns to campus with cautious reopening

After some seventeen months of operating fully online, Ashesi’s campus reopened to all students, faculty, and staff this August. The University experimented with reopening for a small group of students at the start of 2021, allowing those who would be unable to continue studying at home to return. To limit public gatherings and increase safety, classes will continue to stay online. However, students and faculty now have access to the full complement of university infrastructure to support teaching and learning.

All members of the University returning to campus have had to undergo COVID-19 testing, led by the University’s health team. The University currently has a 6% positivity rate, including those who have self-reported their status. However, the positive cases reported have been primarily asymptomatic. Students who test positive and have non-severe symptoms will receive private accommodation and treatment on campus.

For many students in the Class of 2024, this is the first time they have seen campus since joining Ashesi in 2020. “Everything is more than I expected,” says first-year Angel Gaju ’24. “Coming back on campus is going to boost my energy and my GPA.”
