World Bank Group Delegation visits Ashesi

November 23, 2015 – A delegation from the World Bank Group visited Ashesi to introduce students to career opportunities available at the bank, and also share their experiences in the multinational corporate world.

“The trip itself is inline with the commitment of the senior leadership of the bank to increase diversity of Africans in the rank of our work force,” said Geremie Sawadogo, Manager, Talent Acquisition, World Bank Group, Washington DC. “We have been to a number of countries in Africa, not only giving presentations, but also interviewing for  positions as well.” He was joined by Kennedy Ofosu, Communication Officer at the Ghana Office.

Mr. Sawadogo shared some of his experiences at the World Bank Group with the audience; from being an African in the bank to working in a multinational firm. “You must be passionate about what you want to do,” he said. “I had always been concerned about working to help alleviate poverty and so it was easy to buy into the World Bank’s mission to impact the world in this regard.”

Kennedy Ofosu, on his part, focused on the Ghana office and opportunities therein. “In terms of products Ashesi brings to the work force and skills largely influenced by the liberal arts nature of your university, Ashesi’s system is something that’s needs to be really supported,” he said.

As part of the presentation, they addressed questions from students about working in the World Bank and working for multinationals in general.

“I think the World Bank will be a great place to work,” said Kafui Vorgbe ’16. “It is rife with opportunities to influence the development of nations and positively impact the lives of people and communities. The session on a whole was very useful as it gave insights into their working environment and the need for gaining experiences that fit with requirements of a very competitive space.”
