Nathalie Adu-Gyamfi ’29 first visited Ashesi in 2022 during an alumni homecoming event. She had come along to help her cousin, an Ashesi alum, sell healthy snacks at a booth.
“I had the chance to look around and see how beautiful the campus was,” Adu-Gyamfi recalls. Her cousin shared stories about student life, academic opportunities, and the close sense of community at Ashesi. By the end of the visit, Adu-Gyamfi felt certain. “I wanted to come here,” she says.
After returning home, she began learning more about the university and its faculty. One story stood out: the journey of Dr. Ayorkor Korsah, Head of the Computer Science and Information Systems Department. Learning about Dr. Korsah’s journey in Artificial Intelligence and her experience during her studies left a lasting impression. “For her to have been the only woman in her class at the time and to have come this far in AI inspires me,” Adu-Gyamfi says.
Now a Computer Science major at Ashesi, Adu-Gyamfi is not wasting time. In her first three days on campus, she started reaching out to faculty to learn about research projects she could join. She was excited to hear that Ashesi was part of the student-research focused REACH Alliance, and also participated in the iGEM synthetic biology competition.
As she begins her journey at Ashesi, Adu-Gyamfi feels a strong sense of belonging: following a path once taken by her cousin, learning from faculty she admires, and looking ahead to the opportunities before her.
