Mathematics and Statistics
Quantitative reasoning is a habit of mind that relies on comfort in working with data, confidence in formulating and carrying out analyses, and skilfulness in communicating quantitative information accurately, precisely, and with insight. Ashesi’s core mathematics pathways develop students’ quantitative reasoning abilities by blending traditional mathematics content—such as functions, calculus, statistics, quantitative methods, and discrete mathematics—with quantitative problems from a wide array of contexts and professional situations.
An emphasis on real-world data analysis
Students use real-world data, employ technology, and practice making meaning and recommendations from their computations and analyses.
Interactive, research-based teaching
Mathematics and statistics faculty use interactive, research-based approaches to teaching and learning that give students substantive, contextualised experiences demonstrating rigorous quantitative reasoning.
Math courses and pathways are sequenced to allow students with differing levels of pre-university mathematics to achieve strong quantitative reasoning skills necessary for the degree they have chosen, and future workplace responsibilities.
The Ashesi Math Resource Centre supports students with one-on-one tutoring, and revision sessions leading up to end-of-semester examinations. The centre runs group sessions every weekday from 7PM to 9PM in Norton Motulsky Hall 207A.
