Welcoming a new cohort of Mechatronics Master’s programme students
Ashesi welcomed the second-ever cohort for our Master’s in Mechatronics Engineering programme this month. Jointly developed and co-taught with ETH Zurich in Switzerland, the programme provides a unique Engineering education for students interested in Mechatronics, focusing on production and automation.
Launched in November 2020, the programme was developed with input and insights from various stakeholders, including industry partners ABB, Barry Callebaut AG, Bühler AG, HPW AG, LafargeHolcim, Nestlé, and Tetra Pak. Industry partners also provide scholarships and career learning opportunities for students within their operations across Africa.

“The application process was tough, but I am happy to be here finally,” shared Dennis Oppong from the University of Mines and Technology in Ghana. “My goal is to be a Control Systems Engineer, and I look forward to learning and deepening the skills to do so here.”
New degree options for our 2023 applications window
The Master’s in Mechatronics Engineering programme is accepting applications for this year until the end of July, with the early application deadline being the end of June. Students applying for the Master’s programme this year may choose between a two-year or a three-year track. Both options provide students with a strong learning experience and career preparation, with the difference being degrees and certifications received at the end of the programme.
Students who choose the three-year degree track – which the programme’s first two cohorts are on – will graduate with a Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) Certificate from ETH Zurich and a Master of Science in Mechatronic Engineering degree from Ashesi University. Students who choose the two-year degree track may pursue either a Master of Science (MSc) in Mechatronic Engineering degree or a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Mechatronic Engineering degree from Ashesi. The Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degree is a research degree.
