Incarceration, a play by the Art Factory

The Art Factory club; showcased its second play, Incarceration, on Friday, 25th March 2011. An estimated number of about 400 people turned up for the event. The club premiered its first production, The Parallel, in March 2009. The Parallel was written by Adwoa Abrafi, Class of 2010. The second production however was written by Afua Kesewa Akoto, Class of 2013.

The inspiration behind the production of Incarceration was the need for the youth to reflect on their past and use it as a means of performing great deeds for this present era and beyond. The main theme of the play was slavery and its aftermath on the local Ghanaian society. Nonetheless, it incorporated other appeals such as comedy, which provided the audience with quite a hearty laugh.

The night began with performances from The Philadelphia Dance Group and an acapella group from Kumasi. The main attraction of the night, which was the play, kicked off with much anticipation from the crowd at 6:15pm. Impressed students jeered and shouted screams as the talented actors displayed their theatric skills.

At the end of the play, the actors surprised the audience, by doing a choreographed dance to Kill Me Shy, a song by a local Ghanaian artiste, D Cryme. Guests also enjoyed a moment of networking and refreshments after the show had ended.

The event turned out to be a huge success and the executives of the club plan on showcasing more brilliant shows. The President of the club, Jacqueline Hansen-Thompson, thanked the sponsors which include Joy Fm and Cedi Print and many others for their contribution in making the production a tremendous success.
