Ashesi’s 19th Commencement Ceremony comes off on June 3rd, 2023, at the Archer Cornfield Courtyard. This year’s ceremony will be our largest yet, with thousands of guests expected on campus, and begins at 9 am. Guests are urged to arrive and be seated on time. Commencement Keynote Speaker
Kofi Appenteng will be Guest Speaker for Ashesi’s 2023 Commencement Ceremony. He is the President and CEO of the Africa-America Institute, a 63-year-old organisation that aims to promote enlightened engagement between Africa and America through education, training and dialogue. He has 30 years of domestic and international experience as a corporate lawyer, investment banker and board director.
Throughout his career, Appenteng has been active with numerous civil society organisations. He is the Chair of the Board of the Ford Foundation, a $12 billion global grant-making foundation headquartered in New York City with ten offices throughout Latin America, Asia and Africa. He is the first African to serve in this position. Read more
Commencement Class Speaker
Christabel Otuko Kuwornu-Adjaottor ’23, nominated by her colleagues, will serve as the Speaker for the 2023 graduating class. Christabel was born in Takoradi in the Western Region of Ghana. In high school, her love grew for accounting after discovering she could become a Chartered Accountant like her father. After graduating from Mfantseman Girls’ Senior High School, she applied to Ashesi to study Business Administration. Read more
Event Photography
Ashesi will provide licenses to selected photographers to capture the entire Commencement event. To ensure licensed University photographers can do their best work, non-licensed photographers will be allowed only on the perimeter of the Archer-Cornfield Courtyard. Family, friends and guests may take photographs with their graduating students after the ceremony. The Alumni Relations Office will share university photos with graduates within two weeks after the ceremony.
Unsolicited commercial photographers (not invited by the University or by a member of the graduating class and their family) will not be allowed to photograph the ceremony.
Livestream and Social Media
This year’s event will be broadcast on Ashesi’s Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube pages. You can share your photos and videos using #Ashesi2023 and #AshesiGrad. There will be posts and events from the event using the same hashtags.
Traffic & Parking
Guests will be directed for parking by campus security personnel to ease traffic flow. Click here for a campus map.
Weather Forecast
Weather forecasts indicate that Commencement Day will be mostly sunny, with a 6% chance of thunderstorms. Graduates and attendees are encouraged to bring umbrellas along to the ceremony should there be rain or drizzle.
