Health & Wellness

WELLNESS

At Ashesi, student wellbeing is a priority. The University provides access to a health center on campus, counseling services, and peer support groups to help students care for both body and mind. Wellness activities such as fitness classes, sports, and stress-relief programs give students ways to stay active and balanced. By combining medical care, mental health support, and opportunities for healthy living, Ashesi works to ensure that students are supported and ready to thrive.

Medical Services

Here When You Need Us, Anytime

From everyday check-ups to emergencies, the Natembea Health Center is always open. As a HEFRA-accredited clinic our priority is to keep the Ashesi community safe, healthy, and thriving so you can focus on teaching, learning, and growing. Our services cover:

  • General Outpatient Care (24/7): Walk-in treatment for illness or injury, available day and night.

  • Inpatient Care: Separate wards for male, female, and employee patients who require observation or overnight stays.

  • Laboratory Services: On-site testing for malaria, typhoid, HIV, hepatitis, syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, COVID-19, pregnancy, and more. Most external tests are covered by health insurance.

The Health Center also offers specialist clinics by appointment, including gynecology, dietetics, dental care, physiotherapy, ophthalmology, chiropractic services, and general physician consultations. Students and staff also have access to the Love Right Clinic, which provides confidential sexual and reproductive health services such as STI testing and treatment, contraception counseling, pregnancy testing, and menstrual health support. All on-site diagnostic tests are free, and patients are referred to partner hospitals for specialized care not available on campus. Medication refills can also be delivered directly to campus.

Students who do not have any form of insurance policy are required to sign up onto the Natembea Health Center’s recommended insurance Policy Provider. Insurance is renewed annually, and is included in fees.

Measles/Mumps/Rubella (MMR), Varicella, and Yellow Fever are required. Other vaccines such as Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Tetanus, and COVID-19 are strongly recommended.

Call the Health Center immediately on +233 501331668 or report in person.

Counseling Services

Finding Balance and Building Resilience

Our counselors provide a safe, confidential space to talk through challenges and find strategies for balance. From individual and group counseling to support groups on stress and addiction, students can access care that meets their needs. When specialized care is required, we connect students with external psychiatric services and provide crisis support in urgent moments.

Coaching & Wellness
Coaching at Ashesi is about building habits for a healthy, purposeful life. Fresher Coaching helps first-year students ease into university life, while Wellness Coaching supports students, staff, faculty, and alumni with tools for managing stress, time, fitness, and life goals. Specialized programs — including Peer Coaching, Five-Year Life Planning, and Professional Development Coaching — empower students to grow in resilience, self-awareness, and confidence.

Academic Advising
Academic wellbeing is just as important as personal wellbeing. Our academic advising office helps students track progress, select courses, plan ahead, and recover from setbacks. With degree audits, peer tutoring, year group advising, and targeted support for first-year and first-generation students, we ensure no one has to navigate academic life at Ashesi alone.
