Faculty
Support
The Provost’s Office is a central resource for support, advocacy, and questions large and small to foster success in faculty teaching and research activities.
To develop an environment that encourages creation of new knowledge through research and application of that knowledge to solve problems that benefit the private and public sectors, at Ashesi, 90% of all rights and royalties in generated IP at the University is to be owned by the Creator(s). With the university owning 10% of the IP the default partnership between the two entities assures creators of support from the university.
For full-time faculty interested in conducting research, we have a travel and research pool of funds to support the scholarly development of faculty members. The yearly Provost allocation is up to $2000 for faculty academic travel and $700-$20,000 for research depending on the funding availability. Case writing for instruction and publication in the Ashesi Cases Repository are also funded.
Ashesi grants a Professorial Chair to faculty members whose values are aligned with the University’s and who demonstrate excellence in teaching, service, and research at a level strengthens and brings recognition to the University.
Faculty with class sizes upwards of 25 are assigned a faculty intern. A team of research interns are also available to support faculty conducting research.
The Provost’s office is also proud to sponsor scholarship in our community through the Research and Intellectual Community (RIC) bi-weekly sharing lunches. The RIC features two or more faculty and faculty interns working on research and cases from different disciplines to informally share their projects or publications with the Ashesi community for feedback or commendation.
Through a partnership with NCFDD, faculty have access to a comprehensive set of resources and programs that individual faculty members. This includes the Center’s webinars, monthly writing challenges, Faculty Success, and mentoring programs. These opportunities are available to all our faculty, graduate students, and staff. Internal mentoring will also be available and partnering will occur during faculty orientation.
The virtual Center for Teaching and Learning provides recordings, links and other academic materials of support for teaching and research for all disciplines and transdisciplinary projects of faculty. The resources in the center provide faculty learning experiences pre-facilitated by faculty from UC Berkely, University of Maryland, Olin College, University of Ghana’s office of research, and beyond the traditional classroom, placed within a rigorous academic framework.
Faculty can access the virtual teaching and learning repository by following the steps below:

The 3-to-5-day new faculty orientation occurs at a time when new faculty are taking in an extraordinary amount of unfamiliar knowledge and university culture. Remembering it all is a challenge. Consequently, the Office of the Provost provides the recording of all sessions, and links to the materials used during the orientation.
Prof. Adei Research Studio for Excellence
The Research Studio works in collaboration with Ashesi faculty, students, and administration to secure external funding from foundations and government agencies for institutional priorities and academic programs.
Services provided by the Studio include identification of potential funding sources, guidance in the development of project proposals, and post-award stewardship of grant funds. The Office also assists and advises faculty in the preparation of applications to private foundations for fellowships and research funding and works with the faculty to coordinate the submission of such applications and ensure compliance with post-award reporting requirements.
Prior to contacting a foundation or submitting a proposal, faculty members should consult with the Research Studio. Faculty members also are encouraged to meet with the Assistant Director of Research if they have ideas for projects that align with institutional priorities so that the Office can be of assistance in advancing these projects and in securing external funding.
Parental Support
Ashesi encourages family/work balance and therefore does not discriminate against its employees because of their family obligations. To the maximum extent possible, the University will seek to support full-time faculty members who become parents as they welcome new children into their families – by birth or adoption – by providing time off (maternity and paternity leave available), a Mother’s Lounge on campus for nursing mothers, or flexible work hours as the case may be.
