Theodora Aryee, PhD
Full-time Faculty, Economics & Business Administration
Dr. Theodora Ekua Aryee has a strong expertise in accounting, with a BSc, MPhil and PhD all in accounting. She is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), having won two (2) awards in the written papers, namely, the Overall Best Affiliate in June 2018 and the highest scoring candidate for the Governance, Risks and Ethics paper in March 2017. Her love for the Governance, Risk and Ethics area in accounting inspired her choice of research in both her postgraduate degrees. For her MPhil, she researched on not-for profit governance, accountability, management and fundraising and her PhD thesis focused on ensuring accountability in the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Theodora has a great personable demeanor, strong work ethic, and is highly motivated to learn, grow and excel. Her career goal is to help bridge the gap between academia and industry. As such, she currently works in both academia and industry, affording her the opportunity to realize her goal. With her unique exposure to both worlds, she has built strong research and teaching skills in academia and strong analytical and problem-solving skills through working in the industry. She hopes to continue to bring these two key sectors together, especially in translating research findings into real life practice.
Her love for helping people and making an impact in her community led her to take steps to work with migrant workers, specifically women, who migrate from the Northern parts of Ghana to Accra to seek greener pastures. For the past seven years, she has provided weekly meals to these migrant workers in Accra Central, educated them on how to keep themselves healthy, worked with those who are willing to pursue alternative sources of livelihoods and further their education. Theodora believes that “anything worth doing is worth doing well”.
