Stephen Emmanuel Armah (PhD)
Full-time Faculty, Economics & Business Administration
Dr. Armah is a Senior Lecturer in the Economics and Business Administration (EBA) Department at Ashesi University. He is the concentration area lead for economics in the EBA Department, a former HOD for the combined HSS and BA departments and later the HOD for the BA department from 2017 to 2020. Stephen Armah has over two decades of experience teaching at the college level in the USA and in Ghana since teaching his first course in 2002 at Emory University.
Apart from supervising PhD theses, over 200 masters’ theses and nearly 100 Ashesi undergraduate theses, he has presented research work in over 15 countries and in over 25 international universities. He has published several academic articles and is currently (2024) working on a paper titled “Interrogating the Currency Depreciation-Corruption Nexus using the NARDL for Ghana” with Belinda Azenui of Denison University and Alfred Berkoh of Ashesi. In June 2024, he published “Examining the Determinants of Contemporary and Future Demand and Supply Dynamics of the Global oil Industry: Implications for Ghana as an Oil Exporter together with John Ayomah, an Ashesi alumnus and in 2022, he published “Addressing quality issues in African Higher Education: the case of Ghana” in the Palgrave Handbook of Africa’s Economic Sectors. In 2020, he published “Nurturing Sustainable Prosperity in West Africa, Examples from Ghana.” Stephen is the founder and Director of the Ashesi Economics Lecture Series and editor of the Ashesi Economics Lecture Series journal. Stephen has won many international awards and is the member of several international academic associations including the American Economic Association (AEA), the African Finance and Economics Association AFEA and the Illinois Economics Association (IEA).
