Kwadwo Gyamfi Osafo-Maafo

Full-time: Computer Science and Engineering

I am a computer science and engineering professional and have a strong passion for integrity and competency. I work with technology to drive efficiency, innovation and improvement in groups and organizations. Areas of interest technically and professionally include: programming languages, software development/engineering, operating systems, database management systems, data and analytics, and information/cyber/computer security. In terms of management systems, I have experience and interest in management systems and management for organizations including information security, risk management, business continuity and disaster recovery, as well as quality management.

In academia, I have lectured, taught and supervised courses and projects in Computer Science. In public service (not government appointee), I have over eight years of experience, including being Head/Director of the Cybersecurity Division and National Communications Sector Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT/CSIRT). I have played a key role in shaping the country’s cybersecurity landscape. Notably, I served as Vice Chair of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Standardization Sector’s Security Group (ITU-T SG 17) and vice chair for Fundamental security technologies and Chair of the regional group for Africa, contributing to the development of global cybersecurity standards. In collaboration with others, Ghana achieved a significant improvement in its cybersecurity ranking in Africa, moving from mid-tier to top-joint ranking.

Currently, I am dedicated to advancing technology, systems, academia, and research, with a focus on improving organizations and fostering innovation. I welcome opportunities for collaboration and knowledge-sharing with like-minded individuals and organizations. I am interested and active in cybersecurity and ICT groups such as AfricaCERT, and aim to be active in groups such as AfricaCERT, FIRST, ACM, IEEE, ITU and others.
