James Okae (PhD)

Full-time: Control and Science Engineering

Dr. James Okae is a full-time Lecturer in the Department of Engineering at Ashesi University, Ghana. He holds a Ph.D. and MEng. in Control Science and Engineering from South China University of Technology (SCUT), China, and a BSc. in Computer Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana. He served as a postdoctoral researcher in the School of Electronic and Information Engineering at SCUT, where he contributed to advanced research in AI-powered stereo depth perception for autonomous systems. Prior to joining Ashesi University, Dr. Okae was a part-time lecturer in the Department of Computer Engineering at KNUST, teaching courses including Robotics and Computer Vision, Programming and Problem Solving, Classical Control Systems, and Neural Networks and Deep Learning. Dr. Okae is a detail-oriented and results-driven scholar with strong research interests in Computer Vision, Visual Artificial Intelligence, and Intelligent Systems. He has published extensively in reputable peer-reviewed journals in these areas and serves as a reviewer for leading international journals, including IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, IEEE Sensors Journal, IEEE Access, and Pattern Recognition. Beyond research, he is deeply committed to teaching, mentorship, and the training of the next generation of engineers. His teaching philosophy emphasizes student-centered learning, with a focus on clarity, engagement, and practical application. He believes that engineering concepts are best understood when theoretical foundations are closely integrated with hands-on experience.
