George Francois, DMA

Full-time Faculty – Law, Humanities & Social Sciences

George Francois is an Associate Professor at Ashesi University, He is an alumnus of the Julliard School in NYC, and holds degrees from the University of Ghana, Legon, the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, U.K., the University of Texas at Austin, and Stony Brook University.

Francois has performed and taught extensively around the world, including in the United Kingdom, the United States, the Caribbean, and in Ghana. He has presented master classes at institutions such as Wenatchee Valley College, Washington, U.S, the Saint Lucia School of Music in St. Lucia, Spelman College. Atlanta, Georgia, and at the University of Ghana, Legon.

George has been on faculty at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, and at the Manhattan school of Music in New York. Collaborative partners have included pianist Rita Dove (Poet, Soprano), Terry McMillan (Author), Rachel Barton Pine (Violinist), Tamara Tunie (Actress, Singer), Luther Francois (Jazz Saxophonist), and Sally Singer (Cellist).

An educator, scholar, pianist, composer, writer, producer, and music director, Dr. Francois is interim Executive Director of the New Horizon Special School in Ghana, Music Director of Negritude Inc. (NJ) and Founder/Director of Sankusem – a not-for-profit African Arts Organization. and Music Director of Negritude Inc – a music theater organization based in New Jersey. He has served as Music Director for various churches in NY and NJ.
