Adjunct: Computer Science
Eyram Tawia is the CEO/Co-founder of Leti Arts. Born to a Fine Arts lecturer and a Teacher, he was nurtured by his parents who recognized his creative attributes from the comics he drew as a child. He became fascinated with computers and taught himself to program. Years later, he’s spearheading the game industry in Sub Saharan Africa with the aim of creating games and comics that can compete on the global market. As an experienced game designer and developer, Eyram believes that the game industry would contribute a lot to the GDP of the economy as it involves all skillsets in both science and arts sectors and is striving to build a whole industry and not just a company. Eyram uses games as a tool to ignite the interest of youngsters into STEM related courses dubbed the “STEAM” approach which consciously blends the Arts within engineering disciplines.
He currently lectures at Ashesi University in the Computer Science department championing the first ever game design and development elective course due to his pioneering experience and efforts in the African video games industry. He aims to preserve history and culture through digitization while creating superheroes that African children can look up to. He has been the lead consultant on several gamification projects with USAID, JHPIEGO, UNDP, GIZ and many global NGOS implementing serious games in Africa. He’s currently pursuing his doctoral research at Loughborough University, exploring the intersection of gaming, gamification, and politics in the Global South.
