Esther A. Laryea, PhD
Full-time Faculty, Economics & Business Administration
Dr Laryea is a senior lecturer in the Business Administration Department at Ashesi University. She believes in achieving a fine balance between teaching and research. Her research interests borders on understanding how soft issues such as societal structures, human behaviour, emotions and culture intersect with financial and economic constructs. This interest springs from her belief that economic and financial models fail to reflect reality when they ignore such fundamental issues. She researches in the areas of behavioural and social finance/economics, corporate finance and development finance.
She teaches finance-related courses like Corporate Finance and International Finance. She is also the lead on the Business Administration Applied Project Capstone which focuses on providing students an opportunity to consult for real-life companies. She is a joint recipient of several grants which have supported her research interests in areas like SoTL research and Case-writing. She is also a CLASP fellow- a fellow of a professional development fellowship for early to mid-career faculty who show potential for pedagogical leadership within their home institutions. These awards align with her interest in instructional design and a continuous desire to improve her approaches to student-centred teaching and learning. She is currently the Chair of Ashesi’s Institutional Review Board and has also worked on several projects including the Ashesi E-learning Initiative, STOP-NCD Project and the Ashesi Health and Care Initiative.
