| Anthony Essel-Anderson (PhD)

Full-time Faculty and Acting Head, Economics & Business Administration

Anthony Essel-Anderson has over fifteen years of experience in university teaching, professional accountancy teaching, academic research, curriculum development and evaluation, student research supervision, professional examinations, and professional development training/workshop facilitation. Anthony has taught most of the courses in accounting and finance in the Business Administration program since joining Ashesi in 2008. As a professional accountant in academia, Anthony blends theory with practice in his course modules to transform students into industry-relevant graduates while contributing to advancing business-related theories.

Anthony’s educational profile cuts across academic and professional training. He holds a PhD in Accounting, an MPhil in Accounting, and a BSc in Administration from the University of Ghana. He has been a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (Ghana) since completing the professional qualification examination in May 2008. Anthony has served in several positions at Ashesi, including the Chair of the Academic Programmes Committee, Academic Advisor of the Business Administration Department, Accounting & Finance Lead, member of the Quality Assurance Committee, and Acting Head of the Department of Economics and Business Administration.

Anthony’s research interests are in taxation, education, and finance. He has published research articles on accounting education and taxation in rated research journals. He has also co-authored case studies on Ghanaian businesses. He is currently working on sustainability-related research projects in business and finance.

Anthony is a seasoned resource person for business and finance training workshops. He has facilitated Continuous Professional Development (CPD) training modules of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (Ghana) on Microsoft Excel, Financial Modelling, Risk Management, and Working Capital Management. He has also facilitated in-house professional development training modules on Financial Modelling, Financial Projections, Business Valuations, Data Analytics, and Microsoft Office tools like Excel, Excel Macros/VBA, and Power BI for the Finance staff of several organisations in Ghana.
