Anthony Ebow Spio (PhD)

Anthony Ebow Spio is a senior lecturer in the Economic and Business Administration Department of Ashesi University. Anthony holds a PhD in Business and Management from Oxford Brookes University in the UK, obtained in 2024. He graduated from the University of Strathclyde in Scotland with an MSc. in International Marketing in 1999. Ebow also holds a BA (Hons) in Economics from the University of Ghana in 1987. He also received a Diploma in Sustainable Local Economic Development from Erasmus University Rotterdam, Netherlands, in 2011. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK and the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana. Ebow received the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office Chevening Scholarship for young and outstanding people from the Commonwealth to pursue a postgraduate course in the UK in 1998.
Ebow is an exuberant teacher, scholar and local economic development advocate committed to researching, teaching, and applying the insights of business and entrepreneurship education to facilitate the creation and development of enterprises that will create jobs and wealth in Africa.
He believes learning should lead to a change in the way people think, feel and act. Learning should provide the opportunity for people to acquire skills for personal growth and to contribute meaningfully to the development of society. Consequently, Ebow’s mission is to prepare students and nurture the youth to transform their communities through entrepreneurial actions and ethical leadership. Ebow currently co-leads Applied Projects, a capstone course in business designed to develop students’ competencies to work with organisations as consultants to solve problems and exploit business opportunities.
Before joining Ashesi University, Ebow pursued a progressive career in industry, having worked for Unilever, a multi-national company in Ghana and Nigeria. He co-founded Spio & Spio Consulting and Beacon Books Company. He consulted for the British Council, the World Bank and SMEs.
