Fireside Chat with Bessa Simons

February 13-3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

The Center for African Popular Culture (CAPC) will host a fireside chat with veteran musician Bessa Simons as part of the national centennial celebrations of Ghana’s iconic highlife music genre.

Titled “100 Years of Highlife Music: History, Memory, and Musical Legacy,” the conversation will explore the history, cultural memory, and enduring impact of highlife music in Ghana. The session will be moderated by Prof. Emeritus Kwesi Yankah.

Immediately following the fireside chat, the community is invited to a live pre-Valentine highlife performance by the Bessa Band at the Archer-Cornfield Courtyard.
