Encouraging Community Commitments to Renewable Energy

Ashesi promotes a pledge toward 100% renewable energy and sustainability in several ways among its university community. It has integrated into each core academic course offering over the entire 4-year degree an authentic aspect of renewable energy or sustainability. Ashesi believes that repetitive instruction in all classes on green living has a high probability of forming part of each student’s habit of mind. See an excerpt in the table below of how each department meaningfully integrated climate and sustainability in each core course.

Ashesi also models on its campus the use of renewable energy as a preferred approach to living. This second implicit curriculum is also designed to get students to pledge to advocate and exemplify for themselves and others. Ashesi also has a policy on renewable energy use on campus. See here.

Through Ashesi’s institute, the Ghana Climate Innovation Center, Ashesi is in a position to promote the public’s opinion on the movement towards renewable energy use:

  1. Over 120 Green Businesses attend GCIC’s 2022 National Green Business Roadshow
  2. Participation of Women in Ghana’s Green Economy
  3. Incentive Packages for Green Businesses in Ghana
