DreamOval Foundation, Ghana National Association of Teachers, bring teacher training programme to Ashesi

iTeach, a DreamOval Foundation initiative supported by GNAT to provide teachers from public schools with free basic ICT training, is coming to Ashesi this August.

The DreamOval Foundation and the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) is partnering with Ashesi and the MTN Ghana Foundation to organise iTeach 2013, its biggest computer training programme, for teachers in the Eastern Region of Ghana. Throughout the week of August 5th to 9th, teachers from public schools across the region will receive training on Ashesi’s campus, designed to give them IT skills to enhance their classroom teaching and personal development.

iTeach is a DreamOval Foundation initiative supported by GNAT to provide teachers with free basic ICT training. Since its inception, iTeach has trained teachers from the Greater Accra, Central and Ashanti Regions of Ghana, and has seen teacher participation increase by more than 200%.

During the training workshop, teachers will be introduced to computer and Internet tools that are useful in augmenting classroom efficiency, and can help the educators better engage with their students and colleagues from other parts of the world.

The programme targets young teachers in public schools across Ghana who have little or no experience with Information Technology tools, and enriches them with strong skills that they can use to improve their teaching methods, inspire the students they teach and the colleagues they work with, and boost the quality of education in Ghana.

“Our collaboration with the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) over the past three years has opened up the minds of teachers to the possibilities and opportunities that a basic knowledge of ICT skills can present,” says Marleen Hutchful ‘11, Ashesi alumna and Program Coordinator with the DreamOval Foundation. “iTeach is dear to the heart of the DreamOval Foundation, and it is how we choose to add value to the teaching and learning experience in Ghana.”

“I want to express my sincerest personal appreciation to the Management of Ashesi and MTN Ghana Foundation for joining the iTeach team and offering their amazing facilities and resources to support quality teacher education,” said General Secretary at GNAT Irene Duncan-Adanusa. “I am confident that the team of inspired and visionary people partnering with us will fully support the GNAT to achieve quality ICT education for teachers in public schools across Ghana.”
