Darius’s fascination with coding began during an Introduction to Programing lesson. After moving from Liberia to Ghana for high school—an opportunity his older sister encouraged him to pursue—he encountered programing for the first time in his ICT class at Ghana International Christian School, and he was instantly intrigued.
This moment connected directly to a pivotal childhood experience. He reflects: “At age nine, a volunteer pulled out a device, spoke into it, and a voice answered from nowhere we could see. The entire community was captivated. I didn’t understand it, but I knew I wanted to.” Darius’s high school teacher became a mentor, encouraging him to pursue a degree in Computer Science.
Darius’s drive to give back is as strong as his passion for technology. Even before traveling to Ghana, he was teaching young children in his community to prepare them for formal education. Now, he volunteers with Future of Africa, an initiative that supports children on the streets with skill training and healthcare.
A firm believer that “hard work pays,” Darius is eager to immerse himself in the Ashesi experience. He looks forward to joining clubs, working on projects, and building robotics and technology tools that will one day drive change.
