LLB321 Law of Immovable Property I
This course introduces the customary law regime on land in Ghana. we take special note of the regional differences and their implications. The course travels through time and examines both the colonial and postcolonial statutory frameworks through which the state has sought to regulate land resources and resolve disputes over proprietary interests in land in this jurisdiction
The course aims to equip students with:
- A firm grasp of the customary law rules governing land in different parts of Ghana.
- Knowledge of the statutory frameworks on land
- An understanding of the difficulties and potential clashes arising from the difference in posture between statutory and customary law
- Customary law interests in land
- The Allodial Title
- The Usufructuary Interest.
- Customary Law Tenancies
- Persons who can hold interests in land.
- The Stool and Management of Stool Property
- The Family as a holder of interests inland
- Marital Family Property
- Transferring customary law interests in land
