LLB150 Introduction to Public Policy
This course introduces prospective Law and Public Policy students to the world of public policy. What is it? What does it do? Who works in that space and what exactly do they do? We also disaggregate governing to define and identify the nature of governmental tasks and the methods of achieving them
The course is aimed at:
- Exposing students to the purpose of policymaking
- Concretising the concept of governance and government for prospective policy students
- Giving students an appreciation for the complexity of policymaking for a diverse society and the skillsets such a task requires
- The nature and scope of public policy
- Actors in the policy space: formal policy actors.
- Policy as public discourse: public opinion, the media
- The policy process: the ideal, the not-so-tidy- reality.
- Rationales for public policy
- Issues and controversies in public policy
- Writing policy open editorials
