LLB352 Implementing Policy

This course teaches students about the process by which policies become and create facts in the lives of citizens. We not only learn the how of implementation, we pay attention to the aims of implementation, which become the driving force of implementation and inform the methods and assessable targets set. It is therefore critical that future policymakers engage with what the pillars of implementation are. We will discuss aims like efficiency, justice, popular demands etc

The course will equip students to:

  1. Understand the full implementation process
  2. Assess the implementation choices of current and past policies
  3. Make informed choices about the appropriateness of policy implementation methods and tools for particular policies
  • Policy implementation in a complex, democratic society
  • Implementation of Public Policy, To What End – Efficiency, Equity and Justice, Stakeholders Preferences, Statutory Mandates?
  • Implementation as an Extension of Social Construction
  • Implementation models and best Practices in Implementation Research
  • Ethical and Practical Dimensions of Field-Based Implementation Research
  • Implementation and Policy Change Over Time
  • Public Organizations and their Alternatives in the Delivery of Public Services
