Ashesi University teams win top two places in Global Management Challenge Ghana competition

Ashesi University teams win Global Management Challenge GhanaMarch 9, 2012 – On Thursday, March 8, two Ashesi student teams were announced as top winners in the 2012 Global Management Challenge Ghana – an international business strategy competition designed to test the management ability of participants. The teams, “R One” and “Six Sigma”, won first place and second place respectively after overcoming 64 other teams over the 4 week duration of the competition.

The competition required all participating teams to manage a virtual company. The team that finished with the highest company share price on a simulated stock exchange at the end of the competition was declared the winner. Ashesi University wins Global Management Challenge GhanaThe four-member first-place “R One” team, was made up of Ephraim Acquah ’13, Kwadwo Baning ’13, Oluremi Sonekan ’13 and Daniel Amoah ’13. The team wins GHs3000 and will go on to represent Ghana in the International Final of the competition in Kiev, Ukraine later this year. “We really put a lot of effort into the competition, and it has been great seeing it pay off,” said team-leader of R One, Kwadwo Baning’ 13. “Now, we are looking forward to taking on the world and coming back home winners.”

The second-place team, “Six Sigma”, was made up Kojo Bucknor ’12, Oludele Sonekan ’13, and Ahmed Edusei ’13.

Eight out of the original sixty-four teams (made up of participants from both corporate Ghana and other universities), were selected to participate in the final round of the Global Management Challenge. Four out of the final eight teams were made up of Ashesi students and alumni.

Project Director of the competition, Nouvi Angelo, mentioned that he was impressed with the strategy decisions the Ashesi students made during the competition. He stated he didn’t know what “Ashesi is teaching its students, but it is really sticking.”

The Global Management Challenge is the largest strategy and management simulation competition in the world, in which more than 450,000 university students and corporate executives have participated throughout the world. (For more information, see: http://www.worldgmc.com)
