Ashesi Partners with Nkabom Collaborative to Reimagine Ghana’s Agri-Food and Nutrition Systems

Ashesi University has joined the Nkabom Collaborative, an initiative by McGill University in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, Association of Ghana Industries, and five other universities. The initiative aims to transform food and nutrition systems through youth leadership, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

The Nkabom Collaborative integrates experiential learning beyond traditional, theory-based education. It seeks to equip young people with practical skills and credentials to thrive in employment or entrepreneurship within the nutrition and agri-food sectors.

At its core, the initiative prioritizes inclusivity. It seeks to empower young women, internally displaced persons, and individuals with disabilities with equal access to opportunities. Over the next decade, Ashesi’s engagement in the Nkabom Collaborative will empower many young people to drive sustainable development in Ghana’s agricultural landscape.

The university’s contributions to the initiative will focus on three areas: generating student interest and engagement in the agri-food sector, supporting Ashesi alums in building and scaling impactful agri-food ventures, and engaging with relevant stakeholders to address sector challenges and empower local communities.

“What Ashesi brings to this collaborative is the combination of engineering, computer science, and entrepreneurial thinking; applying innovation to agriculture in practical, transformative ways,” Angela Owusu-Ansah, Provost of Ashesi University, said. “Our role is to help build a bridge from farm to table through technology, business acumen, and social responsibility.”
