Defining Problems for Homegrown Solutions

The Ashesi Undergraduate Research Conference (AURC) is an initiative of the Adei Research Studio under the Office of the Provost at Ashesi University. The conference seeks to increase the quantity and quality of research produced in Africa by encouraging undergraduate students to conduct rigorous, impactful research across science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.

Conference Details

The conference will be held in person and will bring together undergraduate researchers from across Ghana to share innovative work and explore solutions to pressing African challenges. The one-day conference will feature keynote presentations, interactive workshops, panel discussions, and research presentations including posters, oral presentations, prototypes, and creative performances.

Registration for the Ashesi Undergraduate Research Conference (AURC) is open to undergraduate researchers from accredited Ghanaian universities. Participants whose abstracts are accepted will receive detailed instructions regarding conference participation, presentation guidelines, and workshop sessions prior to the event.

Researchers are invited to submit abstracts for completed or in-progress studies aligned with the conference theme, “Defining Problems for Homegrown Solutions.” Abstracts should:

  • Clearly state the central research question or objective
  • Provide brief context and background for the topic
  • Reference an appropriate theoretical framework
  • Outline the research methodology or approach
  • Summarize key findings or expected results
  • Explain the significance and potential impact of the research
Submission Format
  • Paper Abstracts must be 250–300 words and written as a single paragraph.
  • Include a concise title of no more than 30 words.
  • Do not include charts, tables, references, or footnotes.
  • Abstracts must be reviewed and approved by the applicant’s research supervisor before submission.
