Ashesi student, Richard Odame ’15, to represent Ghana at Google AdCamp 2013 in Ireland.

Ashesi junior, Richard Odame, has been chosen to join a select number of students from the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) for Google’s 2013 AdCamp in Dublin, Ireland from 22nd to 25th September 2013. Richard is the only student from Ghana to have been selected to be a part of the programme this year.

The Google AdCamp programme is designed for students pursuing a Bachelor’s or a Master’s degree who have an explicit interest in sales and advertising disciplines, and allows the best students to participate in an all-expense-paid learning experience at Google’s office in Dublin.

“I’m really excited to have been selected to be a part of AdCamp 2013,” says Richard, who applied for the programme while on an internship with Unilever Ghana’s marketing office. “I heard about the programme through the Office of Student and Community Affairs at Ashesi, and it was a great opportunity to learn about marketing from one of the best companies in the world – so I applied!”

About 30 university students were selected from EMEA for this year’s programme, which includes a collaborative curriculum focused on Google’s advertising sales and marketing operations, as well as an overview of Google’s advertising products and insight into the marketing industry.

As a participant Richard will also get the opportunity to meet with Google employees and interns, compete in a case competition, and build a peer network through several social activities at Google’s Dublin office.

Earlier this year, Richard Odame was part of a three-member team which won the first edition of Unilever Ghana’s Ideatrophy, and were later selected to represent Ghana at the Unilever Future Leader’s League 2013 in Singapore. (Read more here.)

“I fully intend to be the best representative for Africa when I arrive in Dublin,” Richard adds. “I want to be able to demonstrate the kind of potential that students across the continent have, and prove just how much we can contribute to the world.”
