December 2, 2016, World Trade Centre, Accra – The Ashesi Student Council, in partnership with the Office of Students and Community Affairs at Ashesi, Unibank Ghana and Calbank, held the seventh annual Ubora Awards.
The awards dinner, started by the student council, six years ago, aims at inspiring members of the Ashesi community to reach for excellence in their daily work. The categories of awards capture all the aspects of student, faculty, staff and alumni life. The awards essentially capture the three pillars of Ashesi; Leadership, Citizenship and Scholarship. Other sponsors included Muse Entertainment, Wonder Sports, Sugarkane clothing, Ignite Consult, Best Western Hotel, Accra and Chocolate Clothing.
Over the years, the Ubora Awards has become a highlight of the school calendar, also giving students an opportunity to showcase talents. “In an institution like Ashesi, where excellence is not an exception but a prevailing way of life, it is important that we continue to celebrate and encourage this attitude as often as it is appropriate,” said recently outgone Student Council President, Kwabena Bamfo ‘17. “That’s exactly what Ubora as an event, seeks to achieve.”
For this year’s event, CEO of EIB Network and Empire Entertainment, Nathan Kwabena Adisi, was invited to be the guest speaker. “When you are given a task to do, don’t just do it, but do it well,” he said in his remark. “Go the extra mile, don’t be average, don’t just be ordinary – that will separate you from the rest. In all things you do, remember to be loyal. The value of integrity is highly significant.”
