Ashesi’s 2026 Commencement Ceremony will take place on May 15, 2026, at the Archer Cornfield Courtyard.
The ceremony begins at 9:00 AM, with over two thousand guests expected on campus. This year, we celebrate the achievements of both our undergraduate and graduate students as they complete their academic journey at Ashesi and step into the next chapter of their lives.

An investor, entrepreneur, and Co-founder and Managing Partner of ThirdWay Capital, a pan-African investment firm dedicated to backing and scaling high-potential businesses across the continent.
His work sits at the intersection of capital and purpose, deploying patient capital and technical support to build companies that not only generate strong returns, but also expand economic opportunity for thousands across Africa. A proud alumnus of Ashesi University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Business Administration, Kwabena has built a career spanning global finance, investment, and infrastructure development.
Meet Undergraduate Class Speaker, Alhassan Mohammed '26
Alhassan Mohammed is an Electrical Engineering student in the Class of 2026, known for blending technical curiosity with creative expression.
Beyond the classroom, Mohammed is a poet and spoken word artist whose work has been featured on both national and international platforms. He is the author of Oxygen, a poetry collection that explores themes of African culture, history, and Afrofuturism.
At Ashesi, Mohammed has taken on leadership roles that reflect both his voice and vision. In 2024, he served as Speaker of Parliament for the Student Council and was also named Student Poet-in-Residence, using his art to engage the community and spark meaningful conversations.
Meet Graduate Class Speaker, Baron Afutu M'25
Baron Afutu is a Mechatronic Engineering graduate student in the Ashesi University–ETH Zurich collaborative program, with a focus on industrial automation, control systems, and intelligent software. He holds a First Class Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Ghana, where he was recognized on the Dean’s List and received the Provost’s Honor Award.
His work sits at the intersection of engineering and machine learning, with a strong interest in applying intelligent systems to real-world challenges. For his Master’s thesis, he explores fault detection using Physics-Informed Neural Networks, alongside broader research contributions in microgrid optimization and biomedical data systems.
Afutu has also gained industry experience at Nestlé Ghana, where he supported the optimization and maintenance of critical production systems. His time there strengthened his interest in applying engineering solutions within industrial and manufacturing environments.
Beyond his technical work, he has demonstrated leadership within a diverse, multinational class, serving as a Course Representative. His contributions have been recognized with awards including the Solar and Mechatronics Innovation Award.
