Celebrating Ashesi's Class of 2024
In a vibrant weekend of celebration, joy and accomplishment, Ashesi’s twentieth undergraduate class gathered with family members, friends, and distinguished guests to mark the end of their time as students here.
As rain gently fell on August 24th’s Commencement ceremony, Class Speaker Chudah Yakung ’24 captured the spirit of the day, remarking, “even the skies are shedding a few tears as this amazing class prepares to leave this place.” Watch his remarks below or click here to read.
As Guest Speaker, Mbama spoke to the Class about being in their shoes in 2006, and the lessons her experiences with the world have taught her since.
In a speech drawing on lessons from basketball and karate, Ashesi President Patrick Awuah highlighted the power of focusing on the fundamentals.
In her opening reading to the Class of 2024, Provost Angela Owusu Ansah reminded graduands about the spirit of their education at Ashesi.

The President’s Award for Scholarship, Leadership, and Citizenship at Ashesi University is the most significant award a student can receive upon graduation. It is presented to those who have not only excelled academically but have also demonstrated a deep commitment to the values and mission of Ashesi.
Outstanding Senior-Year Research Takes Centre-Stage
The Class of 2024’s academic growth took centre stage at an August 23rd ceremony held to honor learning, senior-year research and innovation. Fourteen individual and team capstone projects received recognition this year, marking a night dedicated to academic achievement and forward-looking research efforts.

Mechanical Engineering major Samuel Awuah ’24 believes that effective shock absorbers should be available for all cars, not just luxury ones. His senior-year project, focused on building an affordable design prototype, won a technical excellence award at this year’s Quasar night.
Watch: Building a mobile app that allows for easier screening of eye cataracts
Computer Science major Nicole Nanka-Bruce ’24 explored the possibility of using a convolutional neural network model to design an app to help health professionals easily screen for eye cataracts. Tests on the app had 95% accuracy, and Nicole believes that this tool can enable better eye care for all.

Class of 2014 Welcomes Class of 2024 to Alumni Community
Marking their graduation decennial, the Class of 2014 welcomed our newest graduates to the alumni community. Nii Lous Nelson ’14, speaking on behalf of the Class of 2014 congratulated the Class of 2024, and reminded the class that a generous community was waiting for them.
The Class of 2014 also raised GHs208,000 in direct contributions and matching gifts for Ashesi, encouraging the Class of 2024 to exceed them in giving to their alma mater.
