On the 25th of September, 2010, Ashesi’s first ever sponsored walk was held. The brain behind its organization was Phoebe Selassie Acolatse (2011). Prior to the walk, there was a warm-up exercise by a fitness instructor.
Loyal sponsors, MTN and the Ghana Police Brass Band were present and zealous, trailing behind the happy crowd. With soothing notes and symphonies, the Police Band marched behind students and supporters who turned up for the walk.
The 10 kilometer walk commenced from the Ashesi University. Yellow souvenirs which represented MTN colored the streets as the students walked through the streets of Osu. Tired and exhausted individuals were allowed to rest in cars that were trailing behind. They however continued the walk after some minutes.
The school nurse, Mrs. Sharon Rominiyi, and the Registrar, Ms. Carol Asamoah, kept an eye on everything from the ambulance which trailed alongside the students.
The walk finally ended at building three with a final round of fun exercise routines and a range of refreshments to recuperate everyone. Nii Lous Nelson (2014) took away a dinner voucher worth 70Cedis for 2, at any venue of his choice, for raising the largest amount of money for the student endowment fund through the sponsorship card he collected. The award was given to him by the sponsors of the event.
Lead sponsors, MTN Ghana also donated 4000 cedis to the student endowment fund. The total amount of money raised was GH₵ 10, 495 and $330. The amount transferred to the endowment fund was GH₵ 6532 and $330.
Other sponsors included Voltic, First National Savings and Loans, YFM, GTV, Reha Med Group and the Ghana Police.
