Dr. Lloyd AmoahTogether with a team of scholars from around the world, Ashesi Professor Dr. Lloyd Amoah is helping organise the Africa-Asia conference in Ghana, from the 24th of September to the 26th. The conference will be the first ever held in Africa, bringing together a multi-disciplinary and multi-sector team of scholars and institutions from the continent and the rest of the world to focus on Asia and Asia-Africa intellectual interactions.

Conveners include Philippe Peycam, Director of the International Institute for Asian Studies, Leiden, Paul van der Velde, Secretary of the International Convention of Asian Scholars (ICAS), among others.

“This should offer fresh beginnings for sustained Africa-Asia intellectual dialogue,” says co-convener, and Ashesi Professor, Dr. Lloyd Amoah. “Under the aegis of the Lusaka-based Association for Asian Studies in Africa (A-ASIA), the plan is to institutionalize this conference so it will serve as a flagship event on Asian Studies in Africa, to be held in different parts of Africa and Asia every two or three years.”

The conference will focus on several issues around Africa and Asia’s relationship, including migration, economic history and local development, capacity building among others.
