Saturday, October 20, 2012 – Ashesi University has been awarded the 7th Most Respected Company in Ghana for the year 2012. Ashesi’s Founder and President, Patrick Awuah, was also named the 4th Most Respected CEO in Ghana.
Jointly organized by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and Business and Financial Times newspaper under the theme “Growing the leadership and talent pipeline”, the Ghana Most Respected Company and CEO awards serves as the benchmark for assessing business leaders. The award ceremony was held on Saturday, 20th October 2012.
According to PriceWaterHouseCoopers (PwC), “The awards scheme is organized to motivate companies and CEOs to move towards value creation, build public trust and promote good corporate governance practices.”
The award winners are chosen through a survey of over 300 business leaders in Ghana on their perception of peers’ vision and innovation, high ethical standards, promotion of human capital development, good corporate governance and harmonious industrial relations, unique and excellent leadership style, strong brands, excellent business culture and high stakeholders’ value.
“This award is especially gratifying,” said Ashesi President, Patrick Awuah, “because it represents a high opinion for Ashesi by some of the most accomplished individuals in Ghanaian society. I am extremely proud of the Ashesi Community for conducting ourselves in such a way as to merit this award.”
Ashesi is the first educational institution to have received a Most Respected Company award. In 2010, Patrick Awuah became the first university president to have been named one of Ghana’s top ten Most Respected CEOs, placing 8th on the list of ten Most Respected CEOs.
