Ashesi hosts health fair on campus

Helath FairThe Ashesi 2011 Health Fair was hosted on campus from February 21st through 25th, and featured many informative programs, healthy activities and opportunities to interact with health services vendors in the country. Activities available in the week long event included blood screenings, HIV testing, health evaluations, comprehensive eye tests, National Health Insurance registration and a fitness clinic.

The Health Fair opened with a seminar on Reproductive Health, facilitated by Ms. Faustina Nyame Fynn, the Country Director of Marie Stopes International and Dr. Obeng Addo, a highly experienced obstetrician and gynecologist specialist from 37 Military hospital. The seminar was quite insightful with detailed information on health warnings, STIs and their degenerative effects on the reproductive system, as well as the importance of regular medical checkups and screening. The presentation was followed by question and answer session where students, staff and faculty members got answers to health issues that bothered them.

Later in the week a Nutritionist and a Naturalist (Naturopath), took members of the community through 101 Nutrition basics, essential minerals, food preparation and retention of nutrients. The Naturalist made an intriguing expository presentation on wrong dietary intake and how many dig their own graves, using fork and knife, by eating foods high in fat content, which gives rise to high blood cholesterol.
