If Ashesi was a theme park, instead of lecture halls there would be game rooms and bouncy castles, and instead of faculty, staff and students, we would have excitable families having as much fun as possible. Well, to close out the year, the campus took on the theme park vibe for a day; welcoming staff and faculty and their families and friends for a fun fair.
“Family and friends have to make various sacrifices for their loved ones to be able to work in Ashesi,” shared Aba Enyimayew, Director of Human Resources. “People sometimes have to come in at odd hours, on weekends and on holidays, employees sometimes have to combine tending a sick child and meeting demands at work, and family and friends also are available outlets to let off some of the steam at work. So this year, we decided to use our end of year celebration as a way to not only say thank you to our support systems, but to share our campus with them in the most fun way possible.”
“It was an exciting experience for us all, especially the drive up: my son, Adom seemed to enjoy the bumpy ride for some reason,” shared Mensimma Kwaffo, of the Humanities and Social Science department. “I was also happy my husband got to personally meet some of my colleagues he had heard so much about. He and Adom seemed to enjoy the serenity of the campus and equally join in on activity going on as well. It was a great get-together for us as we got to meet families of other colleagues as well. I was glad my family got to meet the other family I belong to.”
“It was nice getting to know my husband’s colleagues and his work environment,” said Mary Sounsir Yiporo, wife of Danyuo Yiporo, Engineering Department. “I hope we’re able to relive this experience in the coming years.”
Over the years, the end of year has become an exciting tradition members of staff and faculty look forward to. In addition to the fun and merry-making, it is also an opportunity to recognize long-serving staff for their service to Ashesi over the years.
Peter Okwei Nortey, Araba Botchway and Rejoice Mawuse Agbleta were celebrated for five years of service to Ashesi while David Atsu Kadeh, Ibrahim Ali, Rebecca Awuah and Anthony Essel-Anderson for 10years.
