Celebrating Excellence and Community Spirit at the 14th Ubora Awards

Members of the Ashesi community gathered at Combos & Casa, East Legon Hills, for the 14th edition of the Ubora Awards. Under the theme, “Echoes of Greatness,” the evening was a celebration of the people whose everyday actions shape the Ashesi experience.

Held annually, the Ubora Awards serves as a reminder to the Ashesi community to strive for excellence in their daily pursuits. The night also offered a vibrant showcase of student talent, with performances that reflected creativity and passion.

This year’s event was graced by Sangu Delle, Board Chair of Ashesi University, who joined virtually as the Special Guest of Honor. He shared, “The people we shall honor tonight embody our core values: ethical leadership, scholarship, service, and community. They are reminders that greatness is not an event but rather a habit, a commitment, and a responsibility; so, keep pushing, dreaming, and choosing the harder right over the easier wrong.”

Among those moved by the moment was Patience Sombang M’27, who found herself inspired by the spirit of recognition that permeated the night. “There’s something that Sangu Delle said in his speech that really got to me,” she admitted. “He mentioned that tonight was not just about the awardees but the nominees as well. And, of course, before one gets nominated, their efforts would have been recognized by the community. This encourages me not just to get an award but to be my authentic self in service to the community.”

On the evolution of the Ubora Awards, Samuel Yussif, President of the Ashesi Students Council (ASC), shared his excitement. “Wherever I will be in the future, I want to look back and see Ubora standing taller, inspiring the community, and continuously raising the bar with the 14th edition serving as the benchmark.”
