Aptly: Tribute to Professor Nana Araba Apt, by Dr. Lloyd Amoah

Aptly!

Motherly, matronly
Motivator, mediator
Sublime thinker, untiring fighter

You gave your all to Ghana, and a
great bit of that to Ashesi
As Ashesi tottered, wide eyed infant
You held her hand firmly with soothing assuredness

So Ashesi crossed those valleys
of formidable trials in pursuit of
Leadership, Citizenship and Scholarship

In another epic fresh beginning Ashesi
climbed with courage these brooding, proud, uncompromising hills

Aptly, delicately, relentlessly
you gave the push
Till the hills succumbed to your larger
than life spirit and welcomed Ashesi

You leave Ashesi
It is the painful way of this inscrutable existence

Our hearts are weighted down pondering the loss of the daily warmth of your bosom
But our spirits are invigorated, our souls energized

For your work in support of this great institution are eternally wrapped in her existence
You will be greatly missed and in equal measure and more remembered always and fondly

A deeply grateful Ashesi says: mo ni adwuma pa!*
And the whole of nature itself stands up and intones:
“Professor Nana Apt you contributed aptly to Ashesi!”

*Akan for: congratulations for a job well done.
