The Ashesi Innovation Experience was nothing short of a rollercoaster ride. From the highs of adrenaline during sports and energisers to the steep drops when things just didn’t work out, this journey felt like a tango between our comfort zones and our panic points—and it was up to us to decide who would lead the dance. It was full of swings and uncertainties, but also pride and joy in discovering new capabilities. AIX wasn’t just a camp where we learned how to live and learn; it opened our eyes wider to who we are, not just as students, but as people. Allow me to explain.
From day one, I realized how versatile the program was. Before diving into lessons and our modules, we all took a personality test that helped us understand who we are and how we might act in certain situations. This made it easier to relate to each other on a deeper level. With that foundation, engaging in lessons became more interactive and fun. But I won’t bore you with tests and lessons—let me tell you about the one thing I really enjoyed at AIX (drumroll, please).
The energisers! These were the perfect way to get back on track when lessons felt long or when people started losing focus. They ranged from quick-thinking games to dance challenges, and they were a fun way of interacting while staying engaged. I especially remember a game called “Zip, Zap, Zop,” where you had to quickly point to people in order while saying the words. It required speed and focus—skills that also came in handy for many of our practical activities. The fact that something so important was taught through a game was something I really enjoyed.
Another thing that made AIX stand out for me was the coaching sessions at the end of each day. Participants were divided into small groups with two coaches, and we reflected on what we did, how we felt, and what we learned. My group was very interactive, and those evening discussions became one of the highlights of my day. I always looked forward to them.
All in all, AIX has been a huge building block for me. It doesn’t just teach—it engages, it challenges, and it makes sure you understand through practical experiences. Would I do this again if I could? Definitely!
